Your feelings are valid. There will always be people going through seemingly ‘worse’ situations than you. Their experiences are valid too. Feelings are not mutually exclusive, they are not in competition and they are not only allowed to be experienced by one person at a time.
I might be struggling with something that leaves me in tears at night, and you might think it’s ridiculous compared to the wars and genocides that are currently raging. It might well be. But it’s still my experience. You don’t have to agree with how I feel or understand it, but you can acknowledge that I’m upset, and if I’m someone you care about and you have capacity, you can ask how you can help.
We are all going through something. It will be a sad day when we lose our compassion for our brothers and sisters because we’ve judged their pain not ‘severe’ enough to care. And if you’re someone who carries guilt for not having ‘big enough’ worries, please know that whatever may be hurting you, I wish you all the love and healing in the world.
More compassion = more love = less pain….globally.
