Psychotherapeutic Counselling

At times we may feel stuck or alone, we are affected by loss, anxiety, depression or something else which stops us from living fully. Perhaps we notice repeating patterns or habits that we don’t know how to change. In these cases, working with an experienced professional through therapeutic coaching and counselling can be a great tool to help us heal, understand ourselves and access the inner resources we need to move forward.

How it works

for you…

By cultivating a safe, confidential space, without any judgement, with the utmost respect and compassion for your experiences and journey whilst holding you accountable for the changes you wish to make, I can support you in exploring anything which is holding you back, and help you to create the awareness you need to make the right decisions for you going forward.

You are always in control of the process, and can use our time together to process your feelings without the need to censor yourself, as well as explore different options for how you’d like to move forward and learn new tools and techniques to support yourself. Your self-awareness will develop and guide you towards what is best for you. You will have access to my secure online portal / app where you can access everything you need (video calls, booking sessions, secure chat with me, shared documents, tools and worksheets tailored specifically to your needs).

I bring my training and experience in effective integrative, holistic counselling, therapeutic coaching and mindfulness to give you the tools to choose from to decide which work best for you. You bring yourself – willingness, worries and anything else, and we work together, side by side, until you feel ready to go forward without me.

I cannot express how grateful I am for all your understanding and patience listening to me over the past few months. Thank you!
Chris

Thank you for opening the door of a new life chapter and leading me through from the dark in to the light and hope.
You are a remarkable lady with a big warm heart and I am forever grateful for all your help.

Our work helped me examine the motives for my anxiety and disarm them, either by disproving them or by learning better coping techniques; therefore lowering the general level of my anxiety.
A huge benefit was having a safe space to speak my thoughts out loud. I tend to get stuck in my head with repetitive, often toxic thoughts and then I feel trapped because I feel horrible for having these thoughts, but can’t talk about them. Beyond just releasing those thoughts, hearing you question them and help me get to the root of them was amazing. Sometimes, a thought that had been plaguing me for months lost its power altogether.
I have also been consistently improving in self-care in the past few months and I attribute that to our chats. You helped me see that taking care of myself was not only ok, but necessary to prevent burning out on everyone else.

How does working online work?

Working online has become far more commonplace since COVID. I’ve been working this way though since 2014. Working via secure video means we can still see each other, just via a computer or smartphone screen, and you remain in the comfort of your own surroundings, cutting out travel time altogether. The online portal / app is an additional benefit of having everything in one place, secure and confidential (no more emails back and forth trying to arrange a session). The counselling is the same as it would be face to face and if you have a poor internet connection I can also do telephone counselling. The biggest difference is that for online counselling, you’ll need somewhere quiet where you won’t be overheard (or a time when you will be on your own), rather than driving to a counselling office.

I use a secure video connection for the online work, from within the online portal / app. You need an internet connection and a reasonable amount of data allowance. If you have any questions about this please contact me and I can help.

How many sessions will I need?

That really is difficult to say as it is your personal journey however, continuity is key so plan for 6-12 weekly sessions lasting 50 minutes each. You may need less or want to take a break, or you may wish to continue, or perhaps have one off sessions after you’ve dealt with your initial reason for coming.

A bit about me…

I believe that everyone has the capacity to find their own peace,

no matter what the circumstances and so I work with you in your own time to develop a perspective on the world and a belief in yourself that allows you to accept and trust yourself and find a place of fulfilment, peace and contentment again.

Whether you’re just looking for someone to offload to because everyone depends on you to hold it together, or you’re keen to really develop a deeper self-awareness, I encourage you to book a free 30min consultation with me today by clicking here or clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

What happens when I contact you?

You can email me directly at emma@emmabrooke.net or click the link below to book a free 30min consultation with me (it takes you to my live calendar and you can see straight away what times are free and book yourself in).

The consultation is a really good chance for us to briefly discuss over a secure video call or telephone call (if you’re in the UK) why you’re thinking about counselling and to find out if we’re a good fit. If we are, we can go ahead and schedule a first session. If it doesn’t feel right for either of us, I may be able to recommend someone else to help.

Training, qualifications & experience

Whilst my original counselling training was in Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling, I have further training in a variety of approaches including Gestalt Therapy, Internal Family Systems and non-dual philosophies. All this means that my work is client led so we can work more on a behavioural and cognitive level or if you wish to work deeper or on a more spiritual level we can. I have a very present and relational approach to our work – I care about how you feel now, how you relate to your environment and the people in it, how you want to feel in the future, and what will help you feel like you are living as the best version of yourself.

My experience has taught me that it is often not about a specific tool or technique brought into the therapeutic relationship, but rather the genuine human connection between therapist / coach and client which can be of greatest benefit. To know that there is someone who isn’t going to judge you, or anyone else, outside of your day to day life, who supports you and believes in you is something sadly not enough people have experienced. This external support goes a huge way towards assisting you to build your own strength and resilience and to help you heal whatever it is that has been stopping you reaching full happiness.
