Terms & Conditions

  • All Client details are treated with the utmost confidentiality and discretion. 
  • Cancellations for individual sessions (not part of a package) at short notice (less than 48hrs) will incur a charge of between 50% & 100%. Emma Brooke Gilding reserves the right to take payment for the session (if not already paid) using the last used credit card on the system. Should rescheduling be agreed, the rescheduled session must be taken within one calendar month, otherwise the session is considered lost and the full fee due.
  • Session fees are reviewed regularly and are subject to change. If session fees change, the client will be given at least two months notice via email and can choose whether to continue or work towards ending the therapeutic relationship. If there is a gap of six months or more since the last paid session, new sessions will be priced at the current prevailing rate.
  • Once you have signed up to a programme, you enter into a contract with Emma Brooke Gilding to pay for the programme in full, regardless of whether or not you complete the programme.
  • Emma Brooke Gilding reserves the right to amend or cancel any programme at any time, in which case a refund for any booked work not yet taken would be issued.
  • By agreeing to these terms when making a booking with Emma Brooke Gilding, you agree to these terms for any future bookings also (whether made via the online system or not).
  • Subscription packages (not including instalment plans for full programmes) can be cancelled at any time by emailing emma@emmabrooke.net. No refunds will be given for cancellations part way through a subscription e.g. the last payment will be the last payment but no refunds or part refunds will be issued for payments already made.
  • All sessions are 50 mins unless otherwise stated.
  • Each person must complete a booking or consultation form which will be retained for insurance purposes. Emma Brooke Gilding is registered with the Data Protection Agency (www.ico.org.uk) and treat all records legally and securely. Data will be kept for six years to comply with professional liability insurance.
  • Any information you share with Emma Brooke Gilding is treated as confidential. Confidentiality will only be broken if she feels there is significant concern for either your health or safety, or the health or safety of someone else (particularly minors), or if she is required to do so for legal reasons. She reserves the right to discuss cases with her Counselling Supervisors, who are bound by the same confidentiality, as part of her commitment to ethical practice and the terms of her Membership of the National Counselling Society. 
  • Anonymised cases may sometimes be used for the purposes of academic and professional assessment and individual and peer supervision. If you would rather this didn’t happen please let Emma Brooke Gilding know in writing. 
  • Emma Brooke Gilding reserves the right to refuse to work with anyone deemed to be unsuitable for any reason.
  • It is vital to discuss medical conditions and medication prior to the commencement of treatment.
  • Refunds will not be given (except in the cases made above) and outcomes are never guaranteed.
  • Any advice or suggestions made verbally, in session or in writing are merely suggestions and should be taken as such. Any shared resources are to be used at your own risk. Emma Brooke Gilding will not be held accountable or liable for anything as a result of such advice, suggestions, resources or therapy.
  • All live video calls are undertaken in a secure environment.

  • Mutual respect is upheld throughout between Emma Brooke Gilding, clients and group members. Bullying and harassment in or outside of sessions will not be tolerated.

By choosing to work with Emma Brooke Gilding you confirm the following:

  • You are not suffering from any diagnosed psychiatric condition, psychological illness or epilepsy and are not under the supervision of a psychiatrist (OR have disclosed this clearly on the consultation form).
  • You will provide Emma Brooke Gilding with your correct contact address, contact details and emergency contact details.
  • You will take part in all sessions free from the influence of either alcohol or drugs and are not taking any prescriptions medications (or have disclosed details of any prescription medications fully in the consultation form).
  • The location you will undertake sessions are safe and free from distractions and will inform Emma Brooke Gilding if there is anyone else present or monitoring the session.
  • You will not record the session without prior permission.
  • You understand and accept that Emma Brooke Gilding may terminate the session without warning if she deems that the session has been booked for some other purpose than that stated and that, should this occur, you will remain liable for any session fee.

Informed Consent:

  • Possible Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Therapy: as with all things, there are pros and cons of online therapy including such disadvantages as lack of visual and auditory cues (as we would only see each other’s faces) and the limitations of confidentiality via technology (however I only use fully encrypted and secure software for live video chat), and advantages that include easy scheduling, time management, being in your own home and a no need to incur transportation costs.
  • Booking systems, payment, live online sessions and anything within the client platform are fully encrypted and your notes are stored on this fully encrypted platform. Personal data may be kept for up to six years in accordance with Emma Brooke Gilding’s public liability insurance policy. Any emails, text messages, video messages or comments via social media are not encrypted.
  • Emma Brooke Gilding remains the owner of the therapeutic record including all transcripts (she does not record sessions), notes, messages within the platform and emails. The client is informed that posting direct information about her or verbatim information from sessions is prohibited.
  • Client understands services are rendered under the laws and / or jurisdiction of the UK and is responsible for abiding by any laws applicable to them working with a therapist outside of their geographic location or jurisdiction.
  • Any requests for “friendship,” business contacts, direct or @replies, blog responses or requests for a blog response within social media sites will be ignored to preserve the integrity of the therapeutic relationship and protect confidentiality.
