“She was so painfully aware that she was a peripheral in almost everyone’s lives and never front and centre. If she disappeared, there were a couple of people who would notice and miss her, but for all the love she gave and all the effort she made, she wondered why she always managed to end up on the outside looking in to others’ seemingly happy lives, filled with people and laughter and community.”
… A sadly not uncommon story….
We are social creatures. We need hugs, affection, laughter and fun. We need someone to sit with us when we cry, or share our joy at our successes. COVID, working online, nomadism…all these things have chipped away at a sense of community for many people, myself included.
For all those who feel alone (a theme coming up more and more in my clients, particularly those in their thirties), I offer you this: listen to the nudges of your heart. Don’t listen to everyone who tells you that you should move, join a class you have no interest in, go on a million dates from all the dating apps, find a new job or join an MLM and make millions.
Trust that when you listen to the nudges of your heart, when you share kindness and compassion and love, when you keep your heart open and continue to look people in the eye and smile, somehow, the right people will find you and connect with you. The more you connect with your heart, the more your tribe will sense you and come for you. You are not alone.
